Two for Two: We're
in South by Southwest - February 28, 2002
First, the bad news: We have to go to Texas. The good news: We're in a festival that is probably the only good thing ever to come out of the nation's most backward state. (Unless Lyle Lovett is from Texas. I forget. Oh yeah, and Richard Linklater. Well, okay, the hyperbolic criticism doesn't hold up. Still...Texas. That's where the "President" is from. Not the elected one--he's from Tennessee. And, no, I *can't* let it go. Thanks for asking) I've never been to South by Southwest, but I hear it's, like, totally awesome. And it's not held in the city that killed Kennedy. It's in Austin, which I've also never been to. My friend Doug Glazer went to Austin and came back with stories about seeing hundreds of thousands of bats fly out of a cave at sundown. He also saw alligators and a giant pit of rattlesnakes. (Bats, gators, snakes, George W. Bush...are you noticing a pattern here?) So I'm looking forward to all that. I might see some films, too. If you're in Austin, you can see "Nothing So Strange" at these times at the "Alamo" venue at SxSW. Friday March 8 Wednesday March 14 Friday March 16 Also, we got our most important review yet, in Weekly Variety. There's no way to link to it, as they charge money for their content, but the highlights are: "A crackling good movie" and "May be the ideal prototype film for the digital age." Perhaps that bodes well for distribution. Not very many distributors have even seen the film yet. Hope to change that in Austin. Best, |
